Atopic dermatitis, usually called neurodermatitis, is a chronic, non-contagious skin disease. The main symptoms are red, scaly, sometimes weeping eczema on the skin and severe itching. The disease progresses in phases and has an individual appearance. Neurodermatitis is not considered curable, but it can be treated.

Dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin, typically characterized by itchiness, redness and a rash. In cases of short duration, there may be small blisters, while in long-term cases the skin may become thickened. The area of skin involved can vary from small to covering the entire body.
